A DSLR for vlogging opens up a whole extra realm of possibility for the avid vlogger. Unlike standard point and shoot cameras, they offer the option to use with a battery of photographic lenses for almost any effect you could imagine. Investing in a lens collection does get slightly expensive over time, so it’s critical to make the right choice of base camera from the get go. You need a versatile unit to grow with you as your skills and lens collection grow.

Here we analyse three DSLR cameras for vloggers that offer great functionality, are compatible with trusted and reputable lens collections, and which open up the panorama of possibilities for vloggers who’re looking for that little bit more from their camera then a point-and-shoot offers. We’ve stuck to established brands here, as accessing the lens collections for them is a lot simpler then with some more modern brands, and we were on the lookout for cameras that offer simple enough functionality to allow any aspiring vlogger to pick them up and get shooting, but which offered rich enough features to ensure that this truly is a DSLR that will grow with your needs over time.

Here’s our top 3 favourite DSLR cameras for vloggers. We’re certain you won’t be disappointed by any of them.

Nikon D3400
Nikon D3400

This is an entry-level DSLR that provides a host of attractive features for anyone that’s looking to break into the market. Of course, it also is compatible with available Nikon lenses, so even if you choose to upgrade your camera down the line you will be able to maximise your investment. Offering up to 24.2 MP of clarity on a simplified interface, anyone can use this powerful little camera. SnapBridge technology makes sharing with up to 5 linked smartphone devices a breeze, although this is a technology that uses only Bluetooth and not Wi-Fi. This camera is lightweight and fairly small for a DSLR, meaning it may be a great choice for those with smaller hands, too.

Although it does come with a battery of pre-sets for easy shooting, the Nikon D3400 also allows the more advanced user to take complete control of their shots and video regarding aperture, ISO and the traditional photographic settings.

Canon EOS Rebel T6
Canon EOS Rebel T6

One of our overall favourite Cannon Cameras for Vloggers, we have almost nothing bad to say about the entire Canon Rebel series, and this is undoubtable our favourite camera from it. Balancing the path between cost and features perfectly, this is a fantastic mid-range camera for someone looking to make an investment without breaking the bank. Depending on the time of year you shop, you can even grab some amazing bundle deals from Canon on this camera.

It’s an 18 MP camera, and allows for Wi-Fi transference of photos and videos. The Canon range of lenses is broad and encompassing, so upgrades of all sorts are possible, and the unit usually ships with 2 basic lenses. Our one small complaint is that the viewing screen does not flip out- it’s more of a traditional camera look. The manual is simple and detailed, making learning the camera’s full functionality simple too.

Nikon D750
Nikon D750

This Nikon DLSR represents a few steps up the inventory range then the other Nikon on our list. Offering Full HD video with built in Wi-Fi, you also get access to a host of pro video features to help make your vlog something special. Power aperture control and auto ISO were included for slick exposure transitions no matter your knowledge, with simultaneous recording of compressed alongside uncompressed video, the option to manually control ISO, aperture and shutter speed and much more. This is a compact and lightweight DSLR that still offers a lot of upgrade potential alongside a ‘vari-angle’ display that’s easy to access in all lighting conditions.

With manual and auto-focus and up to 1920x1080 recording capabilities, the only thing this DSLR lacks is an image stabilisation feature. This little gadget actually shares functionality with some of Nikon’s higher end cameras. We found it a smooth and simple zoom, and a great entry into using a DSLR

A DSLR is a versatile investment for anyone who loves photography and videography together, or who is looking for an adaptable way to grow their collection of lenses and effects. We found these to be some of the best DSLRs for vloggers around, with a ton of functionality and growth potential.
